| The 45th Annual International Woodcarvers Congress was held from June 12th to June 19th in Maquoketa, Iowa. Over 500 pieces were entered into competition and Peter Benson, Neil Cox, and Kirt Curtis did the judging. Fred Cogelow took Best of Show with his “A Penny Saved”(picture 1). Vic Hood was 1st runner up with “Black Lung” (picture 2) and Sandy Czajka was second runner up with “Rollin, Rollin, Rollin”(picture 3). |

More pictures from congress. The fourth picture is that of “The Last Supper” by Eliodoro Cadawas, Jr. or JR, as he is called familiarly. JR carves unusually fast. It has been said that he can carve the center scene of this piece in 2 days. To prove this claim, JR carved one publicly at the show. He finished it in an amazing 12 hours. The fifth picture shows JR at work on the piece.

More pictures from congress. The last picture of this set is an unbelievable example of pyrography. Yes, that is a piece of wood upon which the only marks made are those of a burning pen. Looks more like a photograph doesn’t it?

More pictures from congress. The first picture here is more pyrography by the same artist. The fourth picture of this set, “Father Christmas”, took a Best of Group for Dylan Goodson, a frequent contributor to the WCI forum and known to many of you. The fifth piece is another by JR Cadawas .
