Unhappy 30 hours Down the Drain.

Have been working on a Buffalo in Butternut for about 30 hours and my wife walked to give me a kiss and I got so excited my knife slipped and cut the hoof off my Tatanka.

I will glue it back on and see is I can salvage it, but what a sad, sad sight.

So, how is your day going!!!!!!

No knife accidents but a while ago I carved a dragon out of butternut, finished it with BLO and left it on the shelf. I went out to the Farm for a few days and when I came back my wife had painted that beautiful butternut.

I'd say you are a lucky, lucky man Gergie. That foot was a great sacrifice.

I'm sure it's not funny to you, but it reminds me of my first two attempts at carving while following Pete LeClair's book. All was going swimmingly on both noggins until I got over anxious and lopped both their noses off!

I learned very quickly to watch my blade sharpness and cutting pressure.

I'd still like to see a picture of the 'tatanka'. What movie was that from? Dances with Wolves?

Great story and my condolences. It must have been very frustrating.

Could have been worse. You could have ended up with the same result without a kiss from your wife. I'd say your still ahead. Seriously, I hope the glue works for you. That is a lot of hours invested to have something like this take place.

Safe Carving and God Bless,

Mark

What is a TATANKA and why must it have a HOOF? Merle

Thanks for all your kind words. I am feeling much better now. Although my buffalo is still heeling his hoof.

Here's some tatanka Merle.
