Default 3-hour tour... I mean class...

I've been recruited to teach a 3-hour session at an upcoming carving rendezvous. But I can't think of _what_ the project will be. I'll have ten or so students, with varying degrees of experience. The project will need to be able to be finished in 3 hours (or be able to finish it up at home). I'll be supplying the wood blanks/cutouts. Typically, they're on the smallish size for cost and transportability reasons, mostly.

They only thing that's coming to mind is an ornament of some kind (probably Santa, since that's what I do mostly).

Does anyone have any suggestions for what other projects we might try in this 3-hour timeframe? It doesn't need to be Christmas or Santa related. Any suggestions and pointers to patterns or pictures are greatly appreciated!

S~

How about an Uncle Sam figurine? July is just around the corner. Fox Chapel has a carving book on just Uncle Sams.

Or a walking stick topper?
