Default 2008 Mid America Fall Woodcarving Show

Today was the big show in Omaha. This was my first woodcarving show. I had a blast and met a lot of nice folks and great carvers. Moore Roughouts were on hand and I bought several items from them, my first rough outs. Also Larry and his wife Carol from The Woodcraft Shop in Davenport, Iowa were there with a huge set up. Larry forced me to give him most of my money Larry recently had surgery and was feeling and looking great.

I also met past and present CCA winner P.J. Driscoll of Omaha. Extremely nice guy and he is a retired Omaha firefighter and my son is a new Omaha firefighter so we talked a bit. It was a shame that several of his carvings were broken and not able to be judged for the show. I absolutely love his baseball and fire fighter carvings. I took a bunch of pics of the show and uploaded them to a Picture Trail alblum. You can check them out here:

That looks like fun, Corey! Thanks for sharing your pics with us. I am looking forward to the Dayton show as it will be my first ever carving show.

Guess I better take more money than I had planned...forgot about roughouts.

Thumbs up Re: 2008 Mid America Fall Woodcarving Show

HI Corey good to see you made it to the Omaha show. I was there at opening, I tried to spread my money around to Larry and Carol, Mr. More, and the Loess Hills Saw mill. I got out of there for about 140.00 dollars. Had to go to work so could not stay long. Later.

Bill in Omaha.

Bill,
Shows are a great way to meet and learn from other carvers--and get inspiration from the best carvers in the area. It's easy to catch folks if they have a table/booth, but for those of us wandering around, I've often thought nametags would be helpful if we're looking to connect with other carvers we've visited with via internet/this message board. That or we should always wear something that would help identify us.

I've mostly been to the Kansas City and Topeka shows--plus Congress in Iowa. But I always love renewing friendships and meeting new carving friends...and rebuilding my carving stash of tools, wood, books, blanks, etc. The Moore and Yudis families are good people and I'm glad to hear Larry is doing well.
