Default 2 faced carving

Hi gang,
I know I can hear you all saying who posts more pictures than that woodspirit carver? Believe me I dont post all my pictures I turn them out pretty fast and I dont want to clog up the message board all the time. I had to share this one with you though. It is a piece of Eastern White Cedar about three feet high and 12 inches in diameter. This is also not finished, well it is but I havent stained it yet. Fact is I dont think I will stain this one. The heart wood is a beautiful golden brown and the sap wood is white. You can see the contrast on the pictures below. I think I will just give it a coat of danish oil or something I dont really want to spoil the two colour look. The carving is a product of the woodshow I just went to I ran out of wood so I carved a face in both sides. So this guy is really two faced or maybe he has a split personality. My reason for posting this carving is to share with you the contrast between sap wood and heart wood on some cedar.
Colin

Colin,
Are you doing that with your arm in a sling? I sure am glad that your carving didn't suffer any long range alteration. The wood is beautiful and the carving is nothing less than what we love to see you post pictures of.

Colin,
Great faces as always! The contrast of heart and sap wood is c o o l too!
Did you do this with ONE ARM?
I'm always happy to see your pictures posted, they always make me grin, and I think that's a good thing, so post away!

Colin, I'm really starting to believe that your the ENERGIZER BUNNY hidden under that woodcarver frame....LOL....Bot its really nice, both sides, and I agree, no stain on this one, the two color natural flow is going to be beautiful with a clear finish. Keep the chips flying Colin.

Thumbs up Re: 2 faced carving

I really like seeing the contrast of the light/dark on this carving and glad that you aren't gonna put the cedar stain on it. The natural beauty of this white cedar is quite the reward!

Just today a fellow brought me two walking stick size eastern red cedar tree cuttings and both are almost entirely a rich red heartwood with just a thin (1/4 inch) outer white wood. These pieces will also produce a wonderful red/white contrast when finished and I can't wait to get started when they dry get seasoned just a bit!

Thanks again and keep 'em coming when you can. You're quite the inspiration!
