Default 1st Sight at D-Willow

I recently was invited for a hike to look for some large pieces of cottonwood bark.As we were walking my friend pointed out the diamond willow which I have never seen.He told me how the diamond in the willow is formed due to a disease that attacks it and grows around it.It was a fun hike and jumped a few pheasant. It is also amazing how the beaver take on such large cottonwood trees for snacks.Since I haven't been able to carve lately due to the cold weather and no heat in the garage,I am claiming the dinning room table until spring. It didn't come without compromise but I am ready to get back in to "chips a flying".By the way,my friend is a local sugar beet farmer and can identify most of the trees and brush. He says it is best to look for wood now because the ticks will be bad when it gets warmer.

Forest,This was a great find but I am finding it a very popular walking stick. You know of all my hiking trips in NC that I talked about but this was special. You really get the feeling of crossing paths with Lewis and Clark.Anyway, the beaver do all the work out here, you just pick out what they have left behind. As far as coming out,I'll leave the light on for ya.Davy
