Default 1st. Cypress Knee: Santa

I enjoy experimenting with different woods to gain an all around feeling about carving, but living in Buffalo NY area doesn't lend itself to a vast forest of lumber, so I'm always searching on ebay. Recently I purchased my first pieces of cypress kness and have finished my first carving, bought three pieces all about the same size.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I had fun carving it....bye the way, I have a 58" piece of diamond willow coming in this week.....will be taking a shot at my first walking stick soon........

Comments & critics are all appreciated.

Great Cypress Knee Santa. I started one about a year ago and he seems to be the Sentinal on my carving bench. He has been in the corner about that long.

Coffeeman: Your excitement about carving cypress knees is felt clear across the states (and provinces)! I really like how you used the whole knee for the santa and it looks great!

I have a bunch of knees sitting around the shop and they're staring at me is just getting stronger as they're beggin' to be carved. I have this one about 20" tall and I swear it looks just like a giraffe! Gonna have to tackle that one sometime soon.

Thanks for posting!
