Default 175 year old tree spirit

Hi gang,
I have completed the carving of the maple tree spirit. The large spirit is about 8 or 9 ft tall and the smaller one is about 11 or 12 ft up. The maple was a sugar maple and they guessed it to be about 175 years old. They were just delighted with the end result and have another tree that they would like me to do. In conversation I told them about the message board and how we exchange pictures and ideas. They thought that this was wonderful and she phoned this morning to see if I had posted the finalized carving on the picturetrail site and wanted to know what you guys thought. I have posted the picture on www.picturetrail.com in the woodspirit gallery for the new comers the sign in is carvers-r-us and the password is carve and you can view all the carvings of the people on this message board if your interested.
Colin

Colin, he's great, you can tell her this little old lady carver loved it! It really amazes me the size work you do, fantastic!!
I spent most of today at a carver's show (I'm super excited, entered two Santas and both won, 1st and 2nd places!! ). There were so many great carvings there and terrific wood spirits, finally told the hubby he'll have to start collecting pieces of wood that look good to him when he's out in the woods....but the largest of them will only be about a foot or two tall, can't imagine doing anything EVER the size you do!! Great job! Callynne

Callynne,
Congratulations on your first and second ribbons but I have seen your work and it doesnt suprise me at all your santa's are really outstanding.
Size is not always as hard as it looks I find doing things in giant dimentions easier than doing small detail work. I dont only carve huge woodspirits and native busts I also do small bark carvings and the occasional santa. I usually do them when I am travelling or sitting at a show but not nearly as well as you santa carvers do I am always in awe of your talents. Again thanks for the kind words about my carvings.
Colin

Colin, Grest work and I agree with Callyne on the size. I have a Cedar tree and a Red bud tree that I have cut down and left a 5 foot stump and was looking at them on what I could carve. Wood spirits seems to be the best item to carve.
Anyway, Thanks for sharing and looks great.

Some other subjects I have seen locally are howling coyotes and blue herons carved into stumps.......really neat!

Thanks for the nice compliments Colin, as for the size of the carvings though, I'd rather carve a dozen little ones than even attempt to do one the size you do!! Isn't it great that carving has so much to offer so many different people! Callynne
