Default 15 years and finished!

The piece is called earth spirit...because she sure beat the crap out of my tools. This wood is Kaiwe/ face is milo, woods from Hawaii. This style of carving is very oriented to my old style of working with clay. The Kaiwe was given to me about 15 years ago...ever once in while I would get out the mallets and old chisels and try to carve it. Ha...Ha she is hard as stone. My kids and husband have been teasing me...you still working on that mom??? Broke two of my old chisels, three dremels, and she ate my best knife blade...that is when I order foredom TX and got a few blaster burrs. And it is finally finished....as you can see the Kaiwe has a large range of colors from the transparent blond, to red, to black.... The face is Milo that is white, dark brown color wood. 19"by 12" weight 10 pounds. The statue is BLO, lacquer finish and then buff down with a beeswax. I plan to make a large rounded base perhaps about four feet tall, I just need to find the wood....which will have to be simple grain, one color. Hope you enjoy the colors of this wood...as much as I do...it is rather outstanding. Di

That's gorgeous Di! I dream of carving like that! 15 years isn't bad, I have all sorts of projects(not carvings) that I started that long ago that will get finished one of these years!

Beautiful wood and lovely work - proof again that carving is more than 5-minute projects!

"Very" impressive and I like the total concept and the many hrs you put in carving it,it paid off!! The best thing about your carvings is they are unique! As they say, keep on dancing{carving} cause you sure know the music!

Absolutely beautiful, Di. You have amazing tenacity to stay with it. From the look of it you really won the battle and the war you deserve a medal!
