| | 100th Carving and 1st Cottonwood Bark Carving I know I said I was planning on doing a special Santa (to keep for myself) for my 100th carving but it didn't work out that way. Our local carving show came up too soon (like I didn't have a whole year to plan for it!), their theme was "Where Nature Meets the Arts" so I came up with this idea, it was evidently a good one because it won three ribbons!
I also did my first cottonwood bark carving and it's my first 'Green Person'. The judges liked her too, she won first place in the Relief Carving Category! Cottonwood bark is a real challenge after carving so much basswood, I wasn't prepared for how easy it carves, or breaks off! But it's worth being careful, I think I'll be doing a lot of cottonwood bark pieces...I can see where it could become yet another addiction!!
I'm attaching a photo of each one, if you'd like to see more please check out the Newest Carvings Album on my website. Also, check in on the Latest News Album too, I put some pictures and news about the Cooks Forest Carving Show....I really, really enjoyed it....can you guess why?! Okay, I can't keep it to myself...I entered five carvings and won nine ribbons...can you believe that?!! I still can't, I'm still smiling way too big! Callynne |

| | Re: 100th Carving and 1st Cottonwood Bark Carving Already been done Ashbys, but no reason it can't be done again though.
Take a peek at Mike Bloomquist's rendition. http://www.borg.com/~bloomqum/Image18.htm
And to keep on topic here, nice going Callynne, well done, I can see you are one carver that doesn't have the problem that many male carvers have, making females carvings look they are a guy in drag, very lovely feminine face peeking out of that bark. .

I really like the twist on the "greenman" theme by making a "greenwoman" - and you did such a wonderful job with the female face. Thanks for sharing. |

| | Re: 100th Carving and 1st Cottonwood Bark Carving Doesnt suprise me one bit I have seen those carvings close up and as you well know I drooled all over them. Deborah well deserved and again something different love the bear carving I would like to try one of those large size. The lady in the bark or greenwomen is excellent almost as if she belongs there. I am always in awe of your amazing talent it never suprises me when you step up to the plate and reach a little higher. Way too cool and again congrats on all of your ribbons well deserved.
