One carver that I can't believe hasn't been mentioned yet (at least I don't believe he has) is Wayne Barton. His chip carving style got me started in carving. So I guess I owe him a lot for all the enjoyment.

we could go on and on- there are more good instructors in this country than any of us can fully experience-- the best one is the one that you connect with and whose style and instruction method makes sense to you-- my personal favorite is janet denton cordel. followed by harold enlow- john engler-(3 different styles of carving) and i could go onto mention virtually every instructor i have taken a class from-- i have learned from each of them. alot of how well we carve is our own personal inner strenght. many attend classes with the intention of completing a project-- these people are "project oriented" some of the others are "process oriented." both have thier place and each has a different goal--- ill finish by saying "to thine ownself be true."

I agree with the statement above that we could go on for a long time. But I do want to add that there are many names on the list that I have not heard about nor have I seen there work. Some of the names suggested by Hobo are fantastic. Thanks Hobo. Giuseppe Rumerio and Bob Robertson - Google them if you have not seen their work - are both great artists. To be like them in a work or two. The thought then comes to my mind, Chuck brings it up, that each carver adds something to our carving. That is what makes gathering these names important to me. Looking at their work encourages me to do better and gives ideas in many small ways. Keep em coming. John K Karver |
