| | Re: Who Are Your Favorite Carvers ? Well I'll be darned. As a newbie so to speak, I have only ever met two carvers in my life, Coffee man, who went out of his way to come to my home and help me tremendously and Fred Z at a carving show. But I have to name this fellow as my favorite carver, he has been an inspiration to so many new carvers such as myself and continues to so almost daily, he's not one of the great ones but he sure has kept me going on this great hobby, so hats off to GENE MESSER, he's the man to me.

| | Re: Who Are Your Favorite Carvers ? Well, he don't post as much as he use to, but Bart Wilson needs to be put on that list also. He's been a great inspiration to me and probably to others who have had the opportunity to meet him. Top notch friend and great carver! I think he rates right up there with some of the others from this board. I would probably also throw on there Wayne Shinlever and Allen Goodman.

| | Re: Who Are Your Favorite Carvers ? Thanks to everyone for looking in on this thread and for posting their picks for such a list. As you all notice, I have been trying to tag each carver in some way - this probably just as much for my benefit as anything. Do not know all these carvers. I have tried to look them up and give a general idea of what they carve or contribute.
Let me suggest that you all jump in if you see I have misidentified a carver or you know something about a carver I have not tagged. I have not found something for every carver when I Google. Will work to update as I get more info.
Again, thanks for adding. I have found some new carvers to look into, study and admire. Also thanks again to Corey for starting the thread.

| | Re: Who Are Your Favorite Carvers ? Not just sucking up (much <g>!), but I think that this Bulletin Board's Mark Yundt is my favorite carver.
I have seen no other carver with the width and depth of carvings that Mark has shared with the Board and on his web site.
If Mark has carved it I want to see it...and take away from it whatever I can in terms of inspiration or my own education as a student of woodcarving.
The man is a carving machine of incredible, consistant quality.

| | Re: Who Are Your Favorite Carvers ? Johan Amrud, Mark Yundt,m whose style is stellar, Doris who shows how quickly someone can become a really good carver, the Vikings, unfortunately must remain without named recognition, and my ultimate favorite and influence, Tilman Riemenschneider. | | Re: Who Are Your Favorite Carvers ? Another carver that don't get the credit they deserve is Arnold Smith! For those of you who don't know his work, it is fantastic! I would rank him right up there with some of the best. Great imagination also! By the way, anyone seen or heard from Arnold lately??
