I know it is stange that this is my first post but had to think about it a little. For handcarving my favorite beyond a doubt is Irishman his faces are the best I have seen love his style. Chainsaw carving it would have to be Robbin not only his style but his enthusiasm and will to help anyone. Colin

Hmmmm, good question!! I would have to say Mark Gargac, Lynn Doughty, Cipa & Gene Messer. I too love Irishman's faces...I could see a stick and just know it's his. He just has a GREAT style! There are so many GREAT carvers in here but these are a few of my favs. Last edited by Eric S.; 04-29-2009 at 08:55 PM. |

1) My favorite is Mieto as per: SCULPTOR He is one of the few sculptors who can do justice to the female form, his work is eclectic and always conveys a sense of humor. 2) Lynn Doughty has the unique ability to capture detail using many different techniques and materials without losing the humor of a piece, is an incredible painter, and his figures are all posed in natural, fluid way. He still hasn't sent me a free carving, but I don't hold that against him. (grin) 3) Too numerous to mentions, generous carvers on this forum who so freely give of their time, ideas and help new carvers or those with less talent to become better and to grow. |

Mine would have to be a carver named John Williams, John is a snowbird here in Fl. and lives in Mich. John teaches woodcarving at his home for FREE, I have been going now since the end of November, John has helped me so much with my carving, I would not know where to start to explain the help he has been. John loves carving and loves to teach, he does both very well. John, thank you so much for all your help and advice, you have helped me bring my carving to the next level. Ha, now thats a question that has more than one answer. How about three favorite carvers. First would be Buryl Franks,of Tulsa OK,whose range of expertise seems unlimited. Second would be Rusty Johnson, also of Tulsa, whose imagination and skill in caricatures is simply amazing. But the carver that stretches me,and makes me really think about what I want to do or accomplish,is Lynn Doughty, because I know I'm gonna be competing against him in every show I might choose to attend in this area. Keep up the great work, Lynn ! John |

Boy, thats like trying to decide which of your kids is your favorite!! lol...first one that came to mind was Zadavil....a master in my opinion, geez lots and lots of carvers, afraid I will leave out a couple of dozen and hurt their feelings! Lynn has to be one as I check his blog almost daily! Most of the CCA carvers....oh, makes my head hurt all this thinking!!

At this point I would have to say Irishman for incredible faces, Mieto has beautiful work and style, and Tommy's chainsaw sculptures are incredible. These are three on this forum that really caught my eye, but discovering more talent daily. Jay |

A long absence from the Forum. Another trip to China, children moving all over the country, a son returned for a third Marine tour - Afghanistan this time - coming home in weeks and a few other things like job and church. So, I have gone through the list and will up date the carvers we have listed. I will check to see if they have web sites or places to see their work. Keep on carving. John
