Default your choice of paint for caricatures

Hello all. I finished my first project and it turned out really well. I am almost ready to get painting. My question is, what do you all use to seal the wood and if you use acrylic or watercolors? Thanks in advance for the help!

I don't want to sound "smart", but maybe you should search first and then ask questions.... There are lots of threads on this (maybe) and you could use the info in them to ask a more specific question instead of getting some of the same responses already given in those threads....

^^Here's just a few of topics that are somewhat related.

Most caricature carvers use acrylic. A few use watercolor and a few use oils. I like oils best for appearance, but rarely use them because of the smell and clean up issues.

Sealing is a option that many use also. I'd suggest doing some test pieces (as discussed in depth in some of the threads listed above).

TN, another good thing to do is have some scrap wood handy and try some things out on the scrap basswood before you actually put paint on your wonderful carving... just a thought.

I use the Acrylic Folk paints available at Hobby Lobby, WalMart, etc. Their cheap and do a real good job. I invite you to check through my blog on painting techniques, at least the way I do it. The Chuck Wagon Cook project explains how I go about finishing my figures.

Don't seal your piece prior to painting.
