Still working on Santa busts...... Our club meeting is over, so I compeleted all the busts that were go-bys and they are ready to paint....along with about 10 or so other carvings that I finished in the past month. I let 'em build up before painting..... |

Chahlie, Hope your wife continues to be on the mend. I know sometimes the energy or the desire might not be there. But take the simple approach and just carve with your favorite chisel, gouge or knife--one tool--and a piece of scrap of your favorite wood that you like to carve. Find a place easy to sweep up, pull up a chair, and make chips. Even if you don't carve anything recognizable, just making chips will ease your carving aches. It might even relax you a bit, and take your mind off all that's going on. Who knows, you or your wife might even get a chuckle or two out of what you created. ![]() I hope you, your wife, and your family and friends have a healthy and happy holiday!

tom, Today sofar i used my burner to detail out the fuzzies and little chunkies that hang around, only with a very light scorch, it seams to work as well as char without the discoloration.. then after i saw the mess the eyes were in i carved them out to a flat plane, im gonna paint them back in, if i had another pen for my burner, (dont know which one yet) i think i could detail the eyes back in there without much problems... but not enough left to carve them in without having to move the ears back farther on the head.... another thought couple years ago i bought a bag of them googley eyes like on teddy bears, but there 1/4" inch i was using them for a misqueto mobile, but they might be considered on this feller dr. dude bad pic below oh how do you get rid of the flakes ? chip? fuzz apperent in this photo?

tom final head -eyes on Dr... painted on, eye carved area is just a hint of knife marks whites straight paint then a trace of blue on outer pupil last tooth pick dipped in straight black Amazingly this charter favors my doctor pretty much, or with this carving you could pick him out of a dozen other doctors...
