C O O L little fellow! Did they mind the woodchips on the floor? I'm taking a carving to the next waiting room I have to go to, great idea! They might even get to you sooner if they see a pile of chips appearing in front of you!

Nice carving! But you're either a fast carver or you had a long wait!
Quick question: What tools did you use while you were waiting? I'm guessing you can't take your whole toolbox with you, so, how do you decide what to take with you? Thanks! |

| | Re: Waiting Room Hillbilly Nice little carving Rick. I use a pillow case to catch chips when I am "remote" carving. It's held open by a cross-stitch hoop. I use it a lot when I carve in the den also. |

| | Re: Waiting Room Hillbilly Thanks,
Actually, this is one of several cutouts I made for a class.
It was a three-hour class; I always carve one first to make sure the class can complete it in three hours. It took me two hours to finish the first one, so I knew the class would not complete them in three.
I ended up with a box of twelve cutouts that I have to carve; I have completed three.
One was the original Troll, the second (another hillbilly) was donated to a fundraiser for a friends injured son, and this one.
The class project turned out to be a name tag; it was very well received and everyone finished at least one. I even created two new woodcarvers in that class.
I guess the pattern is mine since I drew it, But the pattern was supposed to be a troll, not a hillbilly.
The hillbilly reminds me of Harold Enlow's "Rufus" and I am sure his carving influenced mine. Over the years I have carved several in different costumes; Santas, Harley Riders, Hillbillies, Cavemen, and even one in a Top Hat and Tails.
No, I didn't complete it in one waiting room.
Yes, I take my whole toolbox with me everywhere; it is just a wooden cigar box.
Most of this carving is done with a knife, V-tool, and a #3 gouge.
I have made many with ponytails, and the "Old Hippys" can't resist them. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
