Default Viking Miniature

Here is a miniature bust of a Viking that I took to Townsend. I won a blue ribbon with him in the miniature category. He was stained with the mix that Don Mertz uses which I think brings out the detail.

Very nice Jeff. I like the stain you used. What was the stain mix?

Jerry the mix is raw sienna oil paint and boiled linseed oil mixed together to make the stain. You can find all the info on Don Mertz site the woodbeecarver.com.
Forrest, Thanks for the kind words. I was in the intermediate division since I have only been carving for a couple of years. I was lucky enough to get a best of show in Charlotte in the novice division so I am trying to take one step at a time. There are so many great carvers at these shows one is humbled very quickly.

You are doing GREAT!!! I got lucky with my junkie carvings, won best of show in intermediate and the open last year. One show I attend every year, they go beyound open to professionals, got lucky there this year with 22 ribbons. But I carve items for several catories is how this comes about. You need to come on down to,Hickory NC,nice & large inside/a/c/heat, food, places to sit and share carvings over coffee, fast check in of your carvings and the list goes on and on. Its the last wk end in Oct.I hope to make it but all depends with a few little medical problems what happens till Oct. See if you and all of yall that was at the last show,at Hickory we all could have sat together and Id got to know you more. Ive been carving 4 yrs myself and I totally love creating something in wood, which matches my log head.lol
Id like to go to Charlotte but something always comes up at the time they are haven it.Hope I can make it too this year/well 2011

Keep up theses neat carvings Jeff.

Your ole Tn friend,Forrest

Nicely carved, clean, I like the finish. Plain but shows off the detail>
