| | Re: A very small gnome That's really quite impressive, but By George, I did one even smaller. It was carved on one of those hair sized rasberry bush thorns and I carved it using some steel shavings I sharpened up after they were cut of a lathe turning. The carving was a complete replica of Michaelangelo's "David". Unfortuately, before I got a chance to photograph it, I sneezed, and it was wafted, sneeze-bound, back into the rasberry patch. I've been looking for it for several years now and have just about given up, but hope springs eternal, and if I ever find it, I'll be sure to post a pic!
By the way, how'd ya DO that?

Very nice work in such a small scale!
AlArchie,

Good one ALA. Rate right up there with Rick on the story telling. Had me going for a minute. Till the metal filings.
Opsss forgot. ByGeorge, outstanding gnome/Santa.

| | Re: A very small gnome How tiny! Great little knome!
I have been wearing 2 pairs of reading glasses at the same time lately to see my small carvings, and they are huge compared to that! I guess it's time to go get the stronger magnification level. I can't imagine how you could see that clearly to carve so small!

| | Re: A very small gnome Al, I've been wondering how to make some really small tools. Thanks for the tip .
Wade: Thanks, and yes, I agree. There's plenty of the stuff to go around!
Kenny: Thanks for your kind words.
Thor: It was just a scrape piece of white pine left over from another project. I do use a magnifier and reading glasses.
Ron: I gotta find out where you get those things! I love it.

| | Re: A very small gnome By George, that's really a nice one there Chuck! I've always loved putting gnomes, woodspirits 'n such into pencils then giving them away but even with two pairs of glasses they still put such a strain on my eyes... whine, whine, whine :-)
Here's a link to someone who does some impressive carvings in toothpicks. That's just too much for me! http://www004.upp.so-net.ne.jp/mrkei/english/youji.htm |
