Default Upcoming project, a man who made an impression on me....

This next project is something I wanted to do for a while now. I hope I can bring it off reasonably well.
Anyone who ever wore out a pair of boots on the grinders of San Diego or Parris island knew this man.
In actuality, my DI was a smaller guy, no more than 5-9" high, but he sure seemed a lot bigger when he was in your face for some infraction you had committed, real or imagined.
But I remember him as a hard as nails guy, dedicated to making our lives hell, tho in reality, doing his best trying to prepare us for a much bigger Hell we would soon face.
I know now, over 40 years later that we all owe this guy, and others like him for the strength we found to endure much harder times to come.
So, when this is done, it will be my tribute to Sgt Barrera, and the others who shaped and molded us. Semper Fi.

Nice carving. It made me think back 37years to Navy Boot Camp in San Diego. In the Navy they aren't DI'S, they are called Company Commanders (CC'S) and even after all this time I can still see and hear MMC O'Brien, my CC. He too was a little guy in physical stature, but he sure had 80-some recruits under total control and domination. Thanks for bring back a memory.
