| | Topsanah: Prairie Flower...Completed Here she is! She turned out pretty nice. I'm not completely satisfied with her face. I still haven't gotten the "Female" look that I want. The wife and I took a trip to Tulsa on Friday to do some research on "Female native american faces" at the Gilcrease museum and I think I've figured out what is wrong. Even though it's a caricature you still have to have the basic facial structure right. This one still has a manly appearance although it's better than the last. The dress is spot on as far as the detail goes. I really like doing the beadwork painting.

I've seen some squaws that look like twin sisters to Topsanah. I grew up just West of OKC. My Mom and Grandmother would frequently go shopping to El Reno, Okla. I can remember seeing Indian women sitting on the sidewalk, back against the building, feet straight out in front, arms folded, and a wool blanket wrapped around their shoulders (as I remember even summer). Old Indian men walking around with braids, black felt hats with the crown rounded and the brim flat (Like a smokey bear hat). They always fascinated me. Would love to be able to talk to some of those old timers now.
You do a wonderful job capturing the Indian and cowboy people. Your carvings are super.
