Default Thought It Would Be Neat.

I Have Just Passed 100 Carvings Done Since I Started Carving, Actually First Part Of 2004.
I Thought It Would Be Neat To Show Our 1st Carvings And Our Last Carving ,and Tell How We Got Started Carving.................
I Got Started ( Or Inspired) When We Went Though The Carving Museum In Custer Sd. In Sept. 2003 Took Me Awhile To Get Started But As Far As We Can Remember( We Are Older You Know) It Had To Be Around Jan 2004 . Bought A Rough Out From " Rostter Cut Outs" ( Did Not Have A Band Saw Then To Cut It Out Myself). As I Look At My First Carving There Is A Lot Of Fuzzies From A Dull Knife. Took Me A While To Learn To Sharpen A Knife.
I Can Thank My Wife For Encourging Me All Along The Way, And Allowing Me To Buy All The Tools That I Needed And Didn't Need.
This My First Carving And My 102nd ..............................

...............................NOW IT'S YOUR TURN TO POST YOURS.....

Thumbs up Re: Thought It Would Be Neat.

Your first one doesn't look to bad to me Jim ... But you can definately tell the years of progression ..

Both are great , past and present no matter what ...

Thank your wife for us that she supported you .. we get to see the wonderful finished products ..

God Bless

Gene

That is a great idea, boy you can really see the difference in skill level. I would agree though, your first carving was one heck of a good carving!

Jim, that was a pretty good carving for your first one but I can really tell a difference now. You've come a long way!

Default Re: Then and Now

My earliest carvings are now lost (rifles I whittled to play with), but I do have a relief carving of my girlfriend's dachshund I did at age 16 in 1949. I have done several reliefs during the past year so I'll include the one I like best: "Carving Hands" based on Escher's "Drawing Hands."

Jim,
Your first carving sure looks a lot better than my first. Your progress is quite evident. Thanks for sharing.
