Default Thanks to Gene Messer

Had our first official carving club meeting a few days ago, and with Genes' blessing, printed out six copies of his "Little Guys" tutorial, laminated and wired the sheets into booklets, then reluctantly did the feller attached as a demo for some of the members. I had also supplied 6 12"x1" sticks of Jelutong and as most of those attending were new and didn't have a carving knife, they opted to take a booklet and a stick to try out at home.....even took my copy...lol....When we have our next meeting, I'll take along my camera and hopefully get snaps of some first attempts......I apologise for the sad quality of the snaps, but was in a bit of a hurry.

John,

Ain't teaching fun. I see one of the joys in the world of woodcarving is our delight in giving away what we know. Sharing the joy makes this great hobby all that much better. Every club ought to have guys like you and Gene who take the time to give of themselves without worrying about who has what right and who gets what out of it. Building relationships around a great hobby - the fun in the sharing.

Great looking little guy.

John,

Looks good to me! And, I agree, Gene does deserve a lot of credit for bringing his work to others, and his willingness to help others learn! He has a great talent, and we are just very fortunate that he is willing to share not only his carving but his teachings to others!

Thanks for sharing your work!
Blake

Hey there John boy, "ya done good", that's also the first one I did as well, Gene sure gives GREAT tutorials. As far as someone saying the joy is in teaching others (that probably is true) but in my case, it sucks. I started last August, gave my son some tools for christmas and already the son of a gun is a better carver than me. Go figure, I guess the next time I go to visit him, I'll try and dull all his tools, that'll take him down a bit (just kidding of course) I still like yer hound dogs and the old fella a lot.

Well folk,
I'm just thrilled to bits with your kind words and generous thoughts. Must admit that I'm excited to see what the members did with Genes' tutorial, however here's the rub.....I live 30 miles from the carving club and having returned home Thursday after receiving a further 2 stents in my arteries, I have been told "Strictly NO driving" for the next week or so. So I may miss the meeting unless I can rope in a friend to drive me down..."Such is Life" <grin>
