Default where to start?

I am wanting to try a charicature that actually resembles somebody but I don't know where to start. Does anyone have any recommendations of books or advice of anykind? The only charicature of any kind I've attempted yet is one I learned from Gene's you tube videos.

Thanks
Steve

Well Steve, I am the world worse on giving advice but where every you start, Practice, practice, Practice. Research, research, research. Look at photographs of the subject and then look some more. If it is family member, lots of pictures and study them every chance you get. Try out caricatures and keep on Practiceing.

Harold Enlow, Mike Shipley books will help.

Steve ... There are a number of books with patterns and start off simple at first .. learn how to carve the face and try it several times with a seperate head like Lynn demonstrates in some of his blogs .. I have several videos showing you how to carve a figure and as Kenny said .. practice ,, practice .. practice and in time you will get better and better ..
But the key is start off simple with easy caricatures ..

Do a Google search for caricature. Also, look at the cartoons in the political section of the newspaper. Nearly all of those are caricatures - you can see what features have been exaggerated.

Steve, hang in there buddy. What every one else has said, keep cuttin and chuckin, that's what I've been doin, if ya start something and it don't look right or ya mess it up, heck man, it's only a piece of wood, dump it and start again, don't dwell on it or it'll break ya, Heck, eight months ago I couldn't spell wood carver, and now I are one (but not a very good one). (smile)
