Default "Sleepy Santa"

The last 2 months I have had a prolem with a bad case of tennis elbow.Due to the pain in roughing-out a project I have been forced to doing rough-outs only, thank goodness I have plenty of them. Here is a project I did off one of Gary Falins rough-outs.

Great carving Mark! You definitely can't tell that your arm isn't up to par.....good job on the carving and painting! Do you know where we can purchase some of Gary's roughouts?

I think it is a great Santa. I love the carvings of Santa's that are out of character best I think. Thanks for the photo.

Thumbs up Re: "Sleepy Santa"

Mark,

Nice job on the Santa Mark. I was just wondering how you finished (sealed) it?

You are a very talented carver. I really like your work.

I seal it in linseed oil,I have yet to wax it that will be tomorrow,I'll post a side by side of it waxed and non-waxed,it does make a difference.I forgot I use a small amount of oil paint in my linseed oil,the color of paint is your prefrence,I use Raw Sienna.

Question Re: "Sleepy Santa"

Mark,

Thanks. That's what I've been using too. What kind of wax do you use? How long after sealing it can you wax it? Does the carving have to be completely dry? How do you apply the wax? Do you have to reapply the wax every so often or not?

Yes, I would like to see a before and after picture of the waxing. Thanks for sharing this information.

I am always looking forward to your next carving to be posted.

Chipper:
I generally wait at least a day ,and the waxing process is something I made up.I take minwax paste wax(for dark wood)and I dilute it down with thinner to make a thin liquid wax,I have had good luck with this mixture.Give it about 15-20 min and buff it off. Thanks y'all fot the comments,my wife thinks it about time I get started on Santa's,the season is sneaking up.
