| | Re: skotty dogs from scraps Funny thing as i was working with these puppy's i found little pigs setting on there fanny's, cant post photo cameras on mommas vacation on the other end of the state..
but just turn the nose to a snout and keep the big leaf shaped ears toss shaggy hair down its forehead and halfway down its back and split the toes shape like hooves oh the single curl for its tail...
funny how no matter how many duplicates you make they all tun out a little different from each other..

| | Re: skotty dogs from scraps I've been carving a variation of your Scotty Dog for a number of years and I've got them down to about 25 minutes a piece.... Just long enough to make the time spent waiting on a doctor's or dentist's appointment painless...

| | Re: skotty dogs from scraps it was a scrap already cut out laying I'm the scrap pieces out of the 6x6x2" sleeping hillbilly i been working on I don't toss out scraps that are larger than 1x1 or so, lots of support items are carved out of these pieces,
weird shaped scraps are lined up on a shelve, eventually something will be visualized in them and penciled on them.. |

| | Re: skotty dogs from scraps Well im not keeping up with thing here, as for carving
i got a clutter removal problem, and a clean up project im under going at the present, taking care of my collection of crap & scraps, odd shaped pieces of metal and all the odd bits and pieces ive drug in here,
the 2x2 & 2x4 blocks gives my grandson something to keep busy with when he comes to visit daily..
half of them are about black from him drawing on them with a carpenters pencil
carving pine construction lumber is much more of a challange to keep the carving details from popping off, becuse of the grain difference. i dont bother with carving it unless its experimental, or just a crude rough idea..
otherwise i put my carving effort into good quality northern basswood.
talking bout alternate carving material:
i carved a golf ball center a few days ago, Man talk about a dream carving material, too bad we couldnt afford big blocks of that material to carve, bad part was the chips are pretty pestery you got to stop and remove loose chips, they static cling to every thing, and the covers are pretty dangerious to get off, i used a dremel with a small saw blade really slowly,
i bought the saw with thr screw on attachment w/cover and gaurd,, the guard gets in the way but it snaps shut if the saw skipps off the project so its somewhat safer... | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
