Default Side project

while i get my head togather on the pete leclair's 1st and 2nd book projects, i wanted to carve a "DOC" car from the cartoon movie cars for my grandson
heres what i made, from 2 1x4x4 blocks glued togather ... glue up is booked, it was a scrap i had in the box akready glued up and the right size

after realizing i made the sheriff, a 49-53? mercury and not the 53 hudson hornet i should have made...

the special part of this carving dwindled,

becuse, my grandson is 2 1/2 yrs old he is at the arguing stage, he tells me a pitcure of the sheriff is doc,
well boh the mercury and the hudson do closely resemble each other... i was attempting to show him the difference ..?..?

well i guess it reversed and sank into my head, instead of me teaching him , i got taught.
.. 3 other profile shots can be seen at..

well we been buying the push back cars if you push them backwards they go across the room, under a spring power,

they run out of stock here fast becuse were limited i guess,
so since i seen the fitst one i always thought i wanted to carve several of them, Although loblolly pine isent the meduim for them, maybe spruce..butternut or basswood
but the heavy grain in the pine is tough to controll cutsknives and gouges slip or chip out the wood and burrs gumb up fast....
i got to carve doc still theb ill see what else
i used google image search for the car photos then went to cars disney/pixxar site for the pics and info in paint colors & schemes

OUTSTANDING Thomp. I like it. Bet the little Grandson will also. Excllent job on carving the Sheriff for sure. Pine is a gppd wood but does pose it's problems. I know with Goody's blank, The chipping and burrs but can be overcome.
I would like to see your other ones when you get finish or a WIP. But Mater would be a great one also.
Ya done great!

Setting here this morning looking at it, the lights are all glued on and set, but i think still frail. grandson on the way here within the next 30 minuets, and im condemplaiting keeping it under glass.
he has wore the paint off ramone, and broke off the hook on mater, hes a boy and rough with his toys, i dont think i could let him take that one and be that rough with it.
he handlesw all my carvings that arnt frail, but if he dose the same to this one as he dose his plastic card it wont make a week.

it still needs sealing so it wont be played with today...

but fought over for sure...

working on the hudson today, thinking im glad i dont live where you do, this town couldnt support a toys-r0-us they pulled out last year.
the grandson is a thomas freak as well. he has most the engines, and will get the round house from paw paw christmas even if i got to male it.
he comes down here with his back pack full, after things settle down he comes to me the keeper of the yardstick, and the boy says paw paw thomas road...
that means give up the yard stick. he needs a road for his train......

later
thomas
oh hey glad to see the board back in service,,, but i slept good last night right here in the chair.... w a i t i n g. . . . .
