| | Re: Show us your Carving station area, I gutted out an old console TV and have my table saw (and a small stereo) on top and tools where the TV was. I also salvaged an old dresser the wifey was throwing out. I use a workmate, all cramed in a small corner section of the garage (my little heaven). I also use those heavy corrugated boxes that oranges come in; they make great laptop carving benches for carving inside. The wife's junk is my gold. Now all I need is time.

| | Re: Show us your Carving station area, Yep old gutted cabinets do come in handy for storage,, dad had a few of them turned into dressers, mom wouldnt let his frankenstined furnature in the house. dad built for functionality not beauty, so he put them in the garage for junk, they usualy serve the purpose well, but as i remember it the hard part is shoving the drawers back in quickly if you had 1965 chevy water pumps and lawnmower blocks in them.. |

| | Re: Show us your Carving station area, Hey Jamesfa', I store all my paint bottles and tubes in one of those Canadian Tire plastic tool boxes (cheap), about 8"-9" w x 8"-9" h x 20" long, use the tool tray that comes with the box to hold brushes and tubes, store all the bottles in the bottom right side up , identify what colour each is by putting a daub of the colour on the white screw cap and Bob's your uncle.
There are numerous images of wood constructed paint caddy's out there, just do a google on paint caddy, might even see some that give you some other ideas how you want to store all those paints.
Hope this is of some help.

| | Re: Show us your Carving station area, Jamesfa,
Im with you, I dont want to store 120 tubes nor do i want to put $50.00 into another failed space hogging contraption.... I got enough of that junk crowding me here already that i cant get around....
taking Old Gord's advise and not knowing that a paint rack/organizer was now called a paint caddy.. I did find a SIMPLE looking 3 shelve frame with dowells holding the paints in place.
each frame holds 8 bottles per shelve, 24 per frame. it's 7-1/4x 18-1/2”. aprox 2" thick. no completed photo to look at. but apperently more to it than the frames says it holds 90 paints for $24.00 +Sh and comes in some kinda box that can be used as work area....? http://amos.shop.com/amos/cc/pcd/897...9714/ccsyn/260
humm,
henges, 1x2's", glue, dowels, luan, screws.
sounds like tomorrows project... ![004[1]](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/004[1].gif) |

| | Re: Show us your Carving station area, Thomp2....I got me one of those contraptions and it works swell. Got all my paint bottles organized by colour, or I think I do, I'm colour blind so I don't really have a clue.
Old Gord....so now I'm an Uncle....geez, I knew my sister was free with her affections, but I didn't realize she had been that free! Do I have to call Frank "Nephiew " now? I didn't notice the family resemblance this summer!
Bob.....the uncle! |

| | Re: Show us your Carving station area, Thomp2-the picture of the caddy is something i was thinking about, but the dimentions they mention seem to be wrong(71/2) -8 bottlles 11/4"x 8=10"
if you make one use your own measurments.

| | Re: Show us your Carving station area, I use my sun porch also for the major part of my carving, woodburning and painting.Makes it a little crowded with the freezer, treadmill and weight bench but so far "it ain't bad" :-].As far as woodchips go I use my "DIRTDEVIL" hand held vac.Works great.I also keep a large bag taped to the side of my bench to sweep the chips and trash off into. When I get some pictures taken I'll try to post them.I enjoy reading all of the great advice and ideas you all send,I'm learning more everyday.Thanks:-] Maryjo |
