rick which shelf sitter are you trying to carve?

theres mice and about everything else folks can conceive
and is it the looks or function?

i carved several before i learned to keep them setting on the shelve there has to be a lot more on the shelf of the carving than i thought, mine kept falling off the shelve if a big truck passed on the road...

i have some shelf sitters with the picture of a cutout poster here.. think it was in the other carving mag issue 14,

the cutout was about 4" tall you should be able to determine the width from the pictures

drill a hole in the shelf end--fill it it with lead shot and then parafin the hole over.or put a cork in the hole. it only has to counter balance the weight of the over hang-- generally not much is required

Another possible solution for you is to put a piece of double-sided tape under the carving.
