Default Scout neckerchief slides

My knee is swollen again so I am tethered to the Laz-e-boy . . . again.

I don't feel like a big project. Watching TV was killing my brain cells so I sent the boys out to the shop to get these cut out blanks I had laying about.

The little running indian, I may work a little more. I did it when I was hurting badly.

Nap time now. It is 5:30 a.m. and I am finally feeling like I can rest a might.

Joe

Those slides are incredible! I have two scouts at home. I want to get them into carving (one already has his whittling chip) Where did you get those rough outs?

I made the roughouts myself. What are they wanting to carve? Is it a patrol name or just something they like?

Nice Joe. i tried my hand at teaching a group of scouts earlier this year. Was a lot of fun plus they were so interested in learning carving. It was an enjoyable night with the scouts......Myron

Those are AWESOME Joe!!

The skull is my favorite... if I only wore a neckerchief! I just may have to try that one anyway...

Great work!!

Great work, Joe....too bad those neckerchief slides have sort of slid into oblivion. They were fun to carve when I was a Scout back in the 50's. Now the venerable neckerchief has given way to the bolo tie for uniform wear.

The GOOD news??? Those slides can be adapted to bolo slides. Back clips, tie ends and braided material are all available in craft shops or through online suppliers like Tandy Leather.

Joe,
My youngest is in a den named the "Scorpions" I would love to make them slides for thier crossing over ceremony in May.
How did you make them? Is there a clamp on the back?

Love the slides, growing up my Dad had a collection of slides he had made mounted on a Fluer de lie. I will have to have him check out your carvings.

Hi, Al.
Back when I did some, it was a little piece of wood 1/4 inch thick, 1 inch long, 1/2 inch wide, with the 1/4 x 1 inch side glued to the middle of the back of the slide. Drill a 1/4 inch hole in the block for the neckerchief to pass through before gluing it to the slide. If that's too tight a fit, use your knife to "widen" the hole a bit until the neckerchief fits.

Great slides Joe! Made a smile come to my face as I looked over at my first real attempt at carving. An Indian Chief done at Scout Camp in 1952! Hope the knee gets well soon.
