Default SC Soldier

This past weekend we had a Living History encampment at Pigeon Forge, Tn. The replica submarine H.L. Hunley was there beside our regiment. We had a great weekend visiting with the Hunley guys.

After the public left, the Hunley guys asked if we wanted to man the sub. We jumped at the offer! We felt like we were 10 years old again as we crawled all over that mock up of the confederate sub.

Afterwards, one of the guys and I were talking. Evidently, one of my men had told this gentleman I am a Navy veteran and how excited I was to go in the Hunley. He asked me to wait a moment and left. When he returned, he had a box with him and handed it to me. It was a desk top miniature of the Hunley!

As a thank you to this man for both letting my men and me play in his submarine, and for the unexpected gift, I carved this soldier last night. He will be in route to South Carolina tomorrow.

Thanks for bearing through my story. I am still a little excited about the weekend experience.

Joe

A fine story Joe. My dad was a submariner in WW2 and I have always enjoyed the subject. I'm sure the recipient of your gift will treasure it......Myron

Joe:
If you think the replica is neat, just make a trip to the Naval Yards in Charleston and see the real thing, makes you wonder how 8 men fit in it,we actually was down at the Isle of Palms when they brought her up, it was just out from Breeches inlet.

Nice work! I like the way you brought the hat and the head together. It came out really nice!
