| | Question for those who have taken the Pete LeClair classes I got a copy of Carving Caricature Figures from Scratch from my son. But I can't see any information on the size of block Pete LeClair uses or any kind of scale information. Can someone shed some light here? |

| | Re: Question for those who have taken the Pete LeClair classes For some reason I have a sticker on the first page of my copy saying 1 1/8" x 1 1/8" x 6" , not sure why maybe I asked Pete or maybe I just looked at his hands holding the piece and made a guess.
Sorry I can't be any more helpful.

| | Re: Question for those who have taken the Pete LeClair classes Capt Crunch,
I don't have my copy handy, but it seems that these were carved with pieces around 1" square. The important part is that they were square. The 6" length supplied by Old Gord seems about right also. I will check again when I get home.
To add, I don't think that you should limit yourself to specific sizes - and that may be why Pete didn't have dimensions in the book. I mean, it IS carving from scratch.
Lastly, send him an e-mail and ask! He may not respond right away, but he will respond. |

| | Re: Question for those who have taken the Pete LeClair classes I got this out of an article in chip chats that was written by the English gentleman who hosted Pete LeClair on his visit to England. 1 1/4 x 1 1/4 x 7 is what he used there, so that's what I wrote in my book. Have I tried it? Nope! |

| | Re: Question for those who have taken the Pete LeClair classes P.S. My guess is as long as the proportions are somewhat correct (it is a caricature), it isn't going to matter too much because he never goes into measurements (I don't think) in the book. |

| | Re: Question for those who have taken the Pete LeClair classes I heard back from Pete himself. He likes using blocks of 1 1/4 by 1 1/4 by about 6 to 8 inches.
Thanks to all who responded. |

| | Re: Question for those who have taken the Pete LeClair classes I asked Pete about that when we were both taking a class from Marv Kaisersatt in MN.
He said the reason he did not include a specific size, is because any size may be used.
I have carved them from 1 x 1 x 6 and 2 x 2 x 12" with equal success. |

| | Re: Question for those who have taken the Pete LeClair classes Just took a class with Pete on December 10-12, great class! At the end of class we put all of our names in a hat, with a chance to win a carving that Pete had done during the class. Guess what! Me, who normally has no luck, won the carving. It was done on a block, 1 3/8 x 1 3/8 x 6. I enjoyed the class enough that I signed up for another one of his in March. Looking forward to it!

Where do you get a copy of Pete's class schedule? I sure would like to take one from him if he ever makes it to the great state of Texas. |

| | Re: Question for those who have taken the Pete LeClair classes I took and will take my classes at Smokey Mountain Woodcarvers in Townsend, Tn. The December class sold out very quickly, so they scheduled the other one in March. The DEcember class had people from Alabama,Ohio, North Carolina, and of course Tennessee. After I signed up, I think they had 2 openings left. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
