I'm kind of reserecting an old thread but these golf ball holders are really cool. My 13 year old just shot his first birdie, what a great way to display the ball he used.

Anyway if it's 1 3/4" hole in a 2" block of wood, that only leaves a 1/4" (or an 1/8 on each side) it looks like the "posts" of the cage are wider than that...am I missing something?

Jason, here's the real scoop on the golf ball deal. You drill 1 1/4 inch holes, 2 on each of the 4 sides, half way thru. Make sure you set your drill press so the holes meet each other in the middle. On the back side (what ever side you choose) widen it by 1/16 on each side so it's not really noticable. Then soak the thing in water after the holes are drilled for 20 minutes to half an hour, weigh it down with something so it stays under, then very carfully, I put the cage in the vice with the golf ball at the opening and then slowly close the vise till it pops in. I haven't broke one yet but apparently you might break one if it's not wet enough. One other thing, drill the holes so they slightly over lap each other, that leaves very little to clean up after drilling. I hope this is clear for everyone.
