Hi Gene
Thanks for the pattern.I was just taking a chunk of wood and looking at the men you where posting and trying to carve them out. When doing them that way it sure wears out my hands.I,ve never used a pattern so i can trace this pattern on the block and then remove that much of the wood up front then start carving the feature. That would be a big help thanks.
Vic.

vic,

if you never used a pattern before the next carving will be an experiance for you for sure,

for years i tried the whittle it to fit method and wound up with some weird looking firewood,
by using a pattern you have a chance to map the block of wood and insure you have porpoitins right and centered on the block,

make sure you use a center line straight from the top of the block to bottom. to help keep the picasso look from happening

other great things to see and experiance is lynn droughtys blog especally the campfire cook,
where he carves the head as a seporate piece the joint allows head position to be turned for best effect
(remember this joint it will save lots of carvings)
also while there look at the method used to join the arms. and mounts the base
that tutorial is the best how to iv seen so far
