Default An Ortel carving that still needs paint.

I have the time to carve during the school year so I just finished this carving from an Ortel rough out. Obviously haven't gotten to paint him yet. Still time to make any changes or improvements. Comments welcome.

John
It looks pretty good but I think you need to do something with the collar. It needs to flare out a little and not be so square. The photo second from the left really shows it. I would also undercut the sleeves between the jacket and the arm to create more shadow and it will be easier to paint. The more shadows you can create the better the carving looks.

Thanks guys. Always fun to have other eyes look at the work. Appreciate the comments toward improvement. Will do on the post after painting. The unpainted work pile grows but summer is coming closer, school will be out and then more painting can get accomplished.

Thanks Lonnie. Funny you should be the one to ask, with your smoking avatar. Tucked under his left arm he will have a fire hose. He will be holding a sign in the other hand which will read, "Thanks for not smoking." Those are Ortel details, not mine but it should be a fun piece when put together.
