I have 2 of Harold Enlow books ive enjoyed,
learning to carve faces and expressions
and
carving figure caricatures in the Ozark style.
in the Ozark book he teaches how to use chisel and mallet to remove waste wood fast, "something most beginners could benefit from, which would put off buying a bandsaw for years"

Tom Wolfe has a lot of good books ive enjoyed, his dog patterns and projects have been especially great..
good luck with your new hobby, and wear your protection...

Welcome Corey from a relative new member. Gene is right, great hobby, interesting people and addictive. Buy good wood. Try things. Dare to throw stuff away or start over. Read more books. Copy everybodies work and then pick out what you like best and make your own style. Keep your tools sharp, carving will be more fun. Practice. Enjoy. Repeat.

By the way, nasty weather here in the Chicago area over the last few days. No sunshine for seven. How have the Tenn members fared with all the tough weather in their neck of the woods? Hope their okay.

John

Corey you better believe what Gene says....."it's addictive"....... And you will get good use out of that bandsaw with your carving. Harold Enlow is one of the greats, you can't go wrong with his books. Also you should check in on Pete Leclair's books. He has three really good ones. So much info on this site. Stay tuned.......Myron

I think it will be addictive. I saw an old post where Gene posted a cowboy he did from 10 years ago and said don't laugh. I wasn't laughing... I thought if I can do that good, I will be happy!! lol
