Mark,
Very nice carving. You paid very close attention. I love the eyes, the beard and the bald head. Great job painting and carving.

Excellent job on the carving and the paint. I really like the detail of the face.

Mark...You really did a nice job on this one. I really like the face and expression. Frankly, I think that face beats any I've see on Phil's pieces. Looks like he taught you too well. If I could offer a suggestion.....downsize the hands. They overpower the carving. Just my opinion.

Looking over the carvings on your website I'd say you have the techniques nailed down pretty solidly. Another suggestion, if I can be so bold, would be to start developing your own personal style. You're much too good to let let others influence you. The Santa's face is something I haven't see before so I am assuming it came from you. However, the hands on that piece clearly say "Phil Bishop" when they should be saying "Mark Akers"!

Again, great work!

Great job Mark!!! Love the socks.

The beard color is cool, Vicki was working w/ one of our students on the coloring and it turned out fantastic.

Nice carving, Mark - I agree with Lynn: slightly smaller hands would allow the eye to concentrate on the face. Having said that, I'd like to add that you do a great job on hands!

To my untrained eyes, they focused on the head area first. Never thought about the hands being to big till Lynn mentioned them. Hmmmm, Guess it is all in what one focuses on first.
Don't let any one put you down,It is obvious, you have come in to your own style already.
Real nice carving Mark.

Hey! I was not putting anyone down by making the comments I did. All I did was express my opinion about the style of that carving. To me the hands, while carved as goodas the rest of the carving, appear a little large and reflect the style of another carver. To Mark they might look great! That's okay with me...it's his carving! Criticism is not always a negative. Sometimes it's offered as encouragement. That's how I hoped my comments would be taken. Sorry if I stepped on some toes!
