Question New Poster

Hello I'm new to posting but been a carver for some 15 years and visited this site off and on for the last 10 years I do have a question though , some time ago I read an article in an in an actual magazine probably "WOOD" mag. anyway it was on these little guys it was an old man ( the subject ) no hair and big jowls , The question is what are the general dimensions of the little guys and does anyone know where on the net. I might find this article ?

woodcarvingjohn,

not sure about the article, but usually the dimensions of the little guys are 1"x1"x2" but this can be change to whatever size you like the ones i do are 1x1x3-4. done with just a knife, they are fun little projects, another carver on here likes to carve his little guys from wood that may be an 1" thick and 1 1/2 to 2" wide by 3-4" tall, it just depends on what works best for you.

bart

there was an article in one of the woodcarving illustrated about little guys by larry spinak.

John .. Bart is right ... The guru of compact characters .. Jack Price use's the block 1''x1''x2'' to carve his little guy's ... but compact characters can go up to as much as 3'' tall ..

The little people I carve usually go as follows
3'' character .. 1 1/4'' wide
2 1/2'' ............. 1 1/8 wide
2'' ................. 1'' wide

As a example the little indian below is 2 1/2 '' tall and 1 1/8'' wide ..

Hope that helps you

Gene

In the fall issue of WCI 2000 there is an article "sign up for carving the little guys" by Larry Spinak. I don't think it is the one you mentioned but it is worth reading. His dimensions are front 1 3/8" side 1 1/4" by 2 1/2" high
