| | New carving, paying respect to Emil Janel This is my second Caricature carving thanks to Rick from little shavers. Rick sent me a cut out of one of Emil Janel's carvings that he had made and said he would not have time to carve. Emil Janel is my hero as some of you know. This carving is not even close to Janels work or Ricks but I'm still learning,Lol.
I call this one "paying respect" and I need to finish a base for the carving and the stone. It's 10" tall and took me forever to carve it and much of the detail is lost in the picture but I hope you enjoy it. Mike

| | Re: New carving, paying respect to Emil Janel Hey there Mike your carving looks great! If that’s only your second caricature you shouldn’t stop now, especially while the fire is still hot! I wasn’t familiar with this carver ‘Janel’, I did look at his work and he’s fantastic. I’d be more than happy to try and cut out some blanks of his work for you. Or I could cut out some blanks from the Higgenbotham book I have. Just let me know and I’ll get something cut out for you ASAP so you can keep at it. |

| | Re: New carving, paying respect to Emil Janel Thanks for the offer JB and I'll keep that in mind. I make a few extra bucks from my wood spirit staffs and I need to get a few more of them done so they can finish drying before the summer craft shows.
I'll keep your web site in my favorites, Thanks agin for the offer, Mike
Gary, Thank's for the kind words of encouragment. If I could come close to Emils carvings I would be one happy man.Mike

| | Re: New carving, paying respect to Emil Janel Mike,
Hey, no problem, keep up the great work!
Something else struck me as I was looking at your carving and your affection for Emil's work. I don't ever remember seeing or hearing about an Emil Janel carving being painted or Emil having painted his work. Has anyone else?
You mention that you hope to come close to Emil's work. Perhaps, you are in a position to take his work a step further (i.e., Emil style type carving that is also painted). It is actually intriguing to me to think about what that would look like and your carving in this post fits the concept.
Anyway, hope to see more of your work soon. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
