Default micro tools?

I have been carving reliefs with an X-acto knife and now I am ready to buy a set of tools and learn caricature carving. Should I buy micros?

Most caricature books have a list of tools used.

A good knife is a must.

I would not recommend the micro tools just yet. They are not as versatile - you can actually get a few tools that can be used both for relief and caricature.

Same advice as we gave to another beginner yesterday. Start off easy with a beginners set from Little Shavers, Smoky Mountain Woodcarvers....etc... and once you get your hands dirty you'll know exactly what sizes work for you.

According to recent posts Dockyards received an "A" in usage and durability. I haven't bought a set yet because the prices vary so much from dealer to dealer. I know that I've seen sets between $34-$39 but the last show that I was at they wanted $55. Also I'm very vested in Flexcut's. Haven't fully made up my mind yet......

I LOVE Dockyards (of course, I own Dockyards and Flexcuts - lol) and I buy all my Dockyards from Rick at http://littleshavers.com/ because they come totally sharpened, honed and ready to use.

hmmmmm That's why I buy everything at Little Shavers.
