Before the great depression the railroad ran through Scott, Georgia. We had a two story hospital, a drug store, bank, turpentine still, ccotton gin, and black smith shop. We had all the stores and businesses you would expect a town to have. When the depression started the railroad coming through scott closed and then the businesses closed down. My grandpa and grandma Smith rented one end of the old depot building that had the office and the two waiting rooms. The man that owned the building told my grandpa that he was going to sell the building and they would have to move. Grandpa talked with my daddy about this and my daddy decided to buy it so his parents would have a place to live. I think I was nine or ten when we moved into the warehouse end of the building. The building was well built and my mother drew the floor plans she wanted. We hired a carpenter to come and put up the walls. We loved living there. Grandpa could tell some interesting stories about the hobo's to us children and they have stayed with me all these years. My sister and I sold the depot building about four years ago. It was sold with the original paint.
