I recently completed a mechanical bottlestopper - the kind that has parts that move when one pulls the string. I don't have a photo of it, but I did make a short movie of it working. It's roughly 180KB in size, so it shouldn't take too long to download. It's a .MOV file, so you'll need Quicktime or some other video player that can run .MOV files, or the Quicktime plug-ins for your browser. http://mysite.verizon.net/cfreaner/Bottlestopper.mov For Ron: It's a bald, round-headed character about 3 inches tall (above the cork) He's holding a mug of beer in his right hand, and his left hand is in front of him, palm up, as if he's been gesturing while talking. When you pull the string, the head tilts backward about 45 degrees, and the right arm moves about 90 degrees, lifting the beer to his mouth. When you let go of the string, the hand with the beer mug comes back down, and the head tilts slightly forward again. It seemed a lot more fun than the standard violin player... Claude |

Way to go Claude. That is really clever. I'd sure like to see the mechanics of the action and how you did it! How about a shot from the back?

The back of the body looks just like the front. All the working parts are inside. I basically used a heavily-modified version of the one in WCI Summer 2005 #31. My mods have the head going front-to-back instead of side-to-side, and the arm on mine goes up and down instead of right to left... Claude |
