Default “The Legendary O’Brien Chicken Chase”

My brother-in-law who is by the way a member here, has never posted a thing. So I thought I'd post his latest carving. It is a three piece carving. He did this for his cousin. Here's the story to go with it.

Cousins story:
“I have to swap chicken stories with you. When we lived in Castroville we had about an acre, in a fenced in back yard. Well, we were out in the country and a chicken got into our yard. At that time we lived in a doublewide and had a ramp that went from the back porch down to the ground. I remember letting my three hounds out, they saw the chicken, and just started sprinting after it. I'll never forget, one would run it down, grab it by the neck and shake it around, then fling it up in the air, only to have the next hound catch it and proceed to do the same thing. Keep in mind this was going on at about 35 to 40 mph. So there I was trying to catch three greyhounds, running around the yard, with chicken feathers flying all over the place."

Brother-in-law story:When I heard that story, true or not, I thought immediately that at some point I would have to carve the scene for them. I only did one grey hound because of space and time considerations, and being a chicken lover, I could not bring myself to show the hounds shaking the chicken so the carving is my interpretation of events. You will notice the smile on the hound’s face. The carving of the hound is meant to be of Matt’s dogs, Lisa-Lisa. And Matt should watch where he steps.

I'm not sure which is best, the story or the carving.........ahhhh....the carving! Second thought, the story AND the carving!

I'm glad my cousin doesn't carve...he's the one who talked me into peeing on the electric fence around the pasture! Now there would be a carving.

Ya, and I stuck my tongue on the fire escape in Jamuary, too.

LOL, Nancy thank you for the belly laugh--how funny and your brother-in-laws carving makes the story come to life. LOL Terrific carving by the way and a very funny story.
Kathy
PS: Al your post made me laugh almost as hard as Nancy's.

Al,
Have your eyes gotten uncrossed yet? Inquiring minds want to know.

nancy,

great both the story & carving,

Along with electric fnces & cold metal licking,

All the greatest inspiriation for great stories and carving subject matter,

i been wanting to carve some scenes of stories but wind up with too much supporting clutter, wish i could figure the bare minimum better...

Garon, my eyes crossed, my toes curled under, my hair stood on end and........never mind......

All of that returned to normal before I was 5, but the psychological damage was done!

Just a short time ago I was hunting Canada Geese with a friend when I downed one across a pasture. He wasn't quite through fighting the shot though, so I went charging through waist high hay to catch him when I got caught in a single-wire barb wire fence, with insulators on the fence posts. The barbs tangled in my coveralls and jabbed into my thigh.

Now that wasn't my main concern as I remembered quite vividly that little "wee episode" of some 50 years back. As I stood there frozen with that barb in my leg, anticipating the worst, and knowing that there is around a 3 to 5 second timer on these darn fences, I bellowed out "AH------AH----AH----" every three to five seconds.

My hunting partner fell on the ground laughing.....the fence wasn't turned on, but the effect was just as amusing!

AH-----AH------AH------
