Default "Laredo Saloon" #2 mini cowboy

Hey All,

Here is this weeks carving. It is called "Laredo Saloon". It is the second in the series of little cowboys that I have been doing. The cowboy is just under 6" tall the base is just under 5" long and 3" deep. The base is white pine ad everything else is carved from basswood. The whole scene is painted in acrylic wash and sealed with water based atin varvish.

I wanted to to stay with the "simple" them and tried to tell a story with the least amount of props. I like some things better than the firs one and some not so much.

The things that I like...

1. The hat turned out better
2. The painting detail thanks to some pointers from a friend
3. The gun arm shows a little action in the scene
4. The scene came together as I had it in my mind
5. I leaned a lot

The things I'm not so happy with...

1. I had really bushy eyebrows but broke them off by working them too much
2. I messed up when cutting the roughout and the ears are too low
3. I messed up on the non gun hand and tried to recover by trying to tuck it away.

As always any and all comments are welcome.

Safe Carving and God Bless,

Mark

Mark:
Looks great to me, and the things you don't like will enablew you to learn from them, we sometimes are our worst critique.

Mark I see all the things that you like and I agree with you, but I'll be darned if I can see anything wrong with your carving or painting.
Thanks for sharing

Mark and Soggy,

Thanks for viewing and commenting. Mark I agree so much about the learning part. Soggy, that is why the things I don't like so well don't appear so drastic, I'm not learning to be a better carver, I'm learning how to hide the mistakes. LOL Thanks again.

Safe Carving and God Bless,

Mark

You did every thing right. The scene is simple but one swinging door says it all and I like the chaps. Great piece I want to see more. Your eyebrows - that is why I leave ears alone LOL
