Default "Joe Boxer", "Golf-Guy"

Recently purchased Marv Kaisersatt new "Character Head" carving book, this is my first carving using his cylinder head formation technique. The boxer concept is not my idea, saw a similiar one at a show two weeks ago and thought it was a great quick neat design.

Swollen black-eye and knock-out punch to the jaw did this boxer in real quick. Basswood, 2"x6", satin spray finish, acrylic paints, whole carving only took 2-3 hrs, not counting the painting.

Golf-Guy is my second character head carving using Marv K's. cylinder technique, which I found to be very easy but structured to create a decent layout design. Spalted basswood, satin spray finish, acrylic paints.

Well done my friend, and carved so quickly! 2 hours, I'd barely get my stropping done. Just kidding, but beautiful work no matter how long it takes. Ain't carving grand, no end to the ideas!

As usual your work is amazing! I just finished three more myself, I'll try to post the pictures soon.

We've all talked about the book in a positive way...but was there anything you thought the book was lacking? (I thought the eyes were one of the most detailed and thus more complex than other teachings...)

I plan on buying Marv's book, but have not done so yet....what is meant by "cylinder head formation technique".

Mike,
The book has you start with cutting out a basic blank from a 2"x2" piece, he then has you round the head to create a cylinder which is the basic form. From this form you can create anything you'd like its just a starting point.

The book takes you through an example and then using that same basic principal (cylinder) he spends numerous pages demonstrating how it can be modified to suit your needs(this book is a valuable investment).

Hope this answers your question.
