bart i called myself searching the 1st and second book for that information but i never found it,

i can easily compair the work needing done in the picture to the smaller tool collection of known tools he uses, and make the choices between them, than just flatout guessing..

I cant say if knowing the tools he uses willl make a difference or not in the final outcome but its making me feel more confident that my guesswork didnt wreck a perfectly good carving...

till i felt like dealing with my delema, bout petes teachin'
I have a throw off project i did start a 47 mercury car (Doc) from the pixxar movie cars, ill post on another thread..

thanks for the trouble with the list of tools im thankfull to you

thomp,

the eye on his left looks pretty good, but the one on his right looks as if you may have gone a little to deep in the corner. it took me awhile to get these eyes down you just have to practice them a good bit and keep refering to the books and looking at pics of his carvings.

Bart,

i think it was an after thought in my planning to make one eye squint, pete mentioned it in the book but didnt show the path to achieve it "or i missed the instruction" on the side of the mouth that is more open. probobly that eye should have beeb squinched shut?

i carved 3 at the same time to get more experience, here's a link to the album .
the bad thing is this one is the best..
http://picasaweb.google.com/thomp51L...lairsInfluence

guess i could carve deeper to get the eyes but that would force me to relieve the rest of the face as well...

2 other options fill the eyes with epoxy or glue on some bug googly eyes
i was hoping for bottle stoppers for my 3 sisters,
when you got 3 sisters you got to make gifts all the same time exactly alike or you'll catch it when they get to chatting together between each other...

guess you could say there as messed up as each other

Thomp,
I think you are doing a good job on those faces so far. When I look at the Right eye it seems like part of the wood fell out of the eye lid. If I don't keep my knife very very sharp because of the grain of the wood (going the wrong way) sometimes the wood will chip out . which causes a lot of mumbing on my part. Keep up the good work.

Jim,

mumbling? heck ill admit it i turned the air blue....!! and had a plain old fit when it crumbled

the wood is from henekiel great wood but ive made so many undecive cuts the wood is pulpy, crushed or damaged, im thinking some non gel type super glue, (the runny stuff) is what is needed to toughen up the wood so i have a chance at finishing but all my runny superglue has dried up, ill get more tonight

i hesitated becuse i think i remember that super glue soaked wood dont take paint like the non glued wood...
maybe jesso primer might help if this is the case
