Default Hunter carving for Dad's B'day

My Dad turned 76 the other day and was an avid hunter, especially pheasants. He loved hunting over brittany spaniels that he lovingly raised and trained.

The carving below is of a hunter in his later years bending down to reward his brittany with a pat on the head for a solid hunt and retrieval.

Carved out of butternut with an oak base I shaped and routed. Treated with Tung Oil and sealed with satin Deft.

Comments and critiques certainly encouraged and welcomed.

That's a great carving Bob. I love the theme and the fact that it's for your dad makes it even more special.
Is the phesant in the dogs mouth carved seperately ?
Soggy

Thank you Soggy and yes, the pheasant was carved separately and glued into a recess carved in the brittany's mouth. The shotgun is separate as well and can be removed and then tucked back under his arm.

Thanks for your comment!

Great carving, Bob! Nice detail and the butternut was an excellent choice. How tall is the carving?
