| | What is a Himmelkind What is a Himmelkind? I understand that they are some type of character carving, but am not familiar at all with the term. I ran across a himmelkind in a publication from England. I would appreciate any information on this topic. |

| | Re: What is a Himmelkind My wife was born and raised in Germany but she came over here as a kid. She said that the closest translation she could come up with is a "child angel" .
Maybe it's a carving of an Angle, Mike

| | Re: What is a Himmelkind Stumbling through the translation pages of google, the best I've been able to come up with is, as JBastian said, "sky child." All of the pictures look like angels to me, however. I guess it could be a young angel, but some of the pictured angels don't look all that young, not old, but not children either. But there were lots of pictures of angels. |

I think this (does not speak German but alot of it is like Norwegian) refers to child angels.
These angels are very popular on those glossy paper kids (girls) collect here in Europe.
We refer to them as "glossy papers" an when somebody says "angel on glossy paper" everbody think of these child angels.
It it dificult to explain words when you do not know what context they was in.
The angel is the upper part of an kid leaning on a cloud facing you and som small wings showing on their back.
My kid sister did have dosens of them and they was soooo cute.
Magne
Iwas able to find one on the net.

| | Re: What is a Himmelkind I asked, "What is a Himmelkind", because I saw it referenced in two seperate articles in Carving, a magazine from England. Both articles showed pictures of character carvings that were done differently from most character carvings that we see in U.S. publications. I liked the carvings and plan to do some that are similar, but I was hoping that there might be more information about this type of character carving, such as books, pictures etc.
The carvings were not angels, but they could be catagorized as children. |
