| | | Hill billy carictatures I have done a little whittling of various figures, but I would like to do a few carictatures of old time hill billy figures. Â*Some might include figures around a moonshine still or figures with jugs of moonshine. Â*Who would be a good contact or source for ideas and information? Â*Thanks for any help anyone could give me. |

| | Re: Hill billy carictatures Hey, Eddy, that might work; if the self portrait turned out a little 'fuzzy', who'd notice, right?

| | | Re: Hill billy carictatures These guys are correct about Harold being the first name in Hillbilly. He has lived in Dogpatch, Arkansas for a long time.
Another carver might be Tom Wolfe, although he has books on many subjects, I believe he still carves mostly hillbillys.
Tom's book on 'Penknife carving' is good, Harold's book 'Carving figure caricatures in the ozark style' is very good and inexpensive.
Other than that, you might take a trip down to the smoky mountains and see for yourself. |
