Default Hill-Billy caricature patterns ?

Never carved a caricature before but would like to carve some Hill-Billy's if I can find some good patterns that arent to hard fore me to tackle. It seems to me that I seen a couple of what they called Ozark people that were really funny but I can't remember where. Any ideas? Thanks, Mike
PS. Who has the best price on bass wood for caricature's?

Thumbs up Re: Hill-Billy caricature patterns ?

Hey Mike I recently saw Harold Enlows book on carving hillbillys on ebay for 4.95. That ain't bad plus you get more patterns and some instruction. I assume you mean prices on basswood roughouts? Check the internet at Texas Woodcarvers or Mountain Woodcarvers. might also want to check with Rick at Littleshavers. have fun, carve oldbearx2

Smoky Mountain also has Enlow rough outs..... I believe they have "Rufus" which is his standard beginners hillbilly. If I knew how to put a drawing on here, I'd give you one of my personal drawings. Maybe I can figure it out one day.

MikeWV,

Harold Enlow has a book called," Carving Figure Caricatures in the Ozark Style" with 69 illustrations, plus a supplement to that book called, " Pattern Supplement to his above mention book. Also there is one by Bill Higginbotham Called, Carving Country Characters with a step by step instructions for 18 projects. Could easily be adapted to a "Hillbilly".

Since I married one from the Ozarks, I don't need to carve one. Oppps, My apoligies Donna T.
Just ing around!

Anyway Mike. Ya may take a look at those books.

Best to you.

BTW, Enlow has another book,"How to Carve Folk Figures and a Cigar-Store Indian" that is helpfull

Hey,
Send me a private message with your address and I'll mail a couple of patterns to you. One is about 7-8" tall with hat and barefooted--the other is Rufus and about 5" tall--no face (hat covers it)and hands in pockets!

I was going to ask if you wanted a picture of my brother to use as a "go by"...but he left the Ozarks several years ago and headed for NY city. Big difference.
