Sounds like something you might get at a medieval fair.
( one head-on-a-stick and two cokes please ) :P
Actually, I tend to carve a lot of heads on the ends of 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 inch or 2 x 2 inch basswood sticks. When I finish the head, I need to make it into something. Sometimes it turns into a bust, but often the shoulders are not wide enough. So I turn it into a bottle-stopper or add a ball-in-cage to the lower section.

I have a unique way of making key chains out of the heads after I mess up in some cases. Everyone thinks it was planned that way and you end up with a sense of satisfaction that you accomplished something. Of course we could adopt your theory of using corks as knife covers and then put the heads on them so they end up looking like those golf club covers you see some of the exotic golfers carry around.

Just posted a picture of the stick I am whittling on right now. http://www.picturetrail.com/ Just type carvers-r-us in the box. It is in the 3rd album.
Actually, I have only carved two pieces of furniture. One was a very old school chair I carved about 30 years ago. The other was a pedestal table I chipcarved for my daughter about 2 years ago.
